Weekend Update

Weekend update for Mom and Dad.

Mom: will be staying at St Francis for now because they don't do transfers I guessed on weekends, but she is up and feeling so much better. She was exercising her arms and legs when I left so she could be strong enough to get the transfer.

Dad: he has finished his first day at rehab and feeling better. Getting a little bored though. Lol

If you would like to visit them I am sure they would love to see some friendly faces.

Thanks again for all the prayers. They have been felt in full force.

This is the message Jana has on her caring bridge page.  Please keep her in your prayers!

I got a port put in on Wednesday. They were running way late so it ended up taking most of the day.  Kelly and Kyler went with me so they had a very long day also.  I have a huge bruise the size of a softball so it looks worse than it is.  I had an appointment with the oncologist today to get the results of the biopsy.  It was all quite confusinShe is having meg but we do know it is a very aggressive breast cancer that has spread to my bones.  Radiation will be first to try to get rid of the pain in my hip.  I don't have the initial appointment with the radiation oncologist until this Thursday. Radiation should take less that a week.  That will be followed by chemo.  They are still testing to see if they can get me into some clinical trials but we will not know until Monday or Tuesday.  If that does not work out, we will go to one of the standard chemos for this stage.  I would do chemo once a week for three weeks and then have the fourth week off.  That would go on over and over until it stops working.  They would do scans every three months to see how the spots are shrinking or growing.

Hey ALL -

I have posted some changes to the 65 Birthday Party schedule on the 65 B'Day Page - PLEASE take a moment to take a look at the page and note the change of venue for FRIDAY, Sept. 4th and the added information about SUNDAY, Sept. 6th.

I also hope that you will get your reservation sent to KIM SAYLOR as soon as possible - we know several of you have been waiting - BUT we will be closing in on the date very quickly now and final purchases must be made and expenses paid. So contact us soon about your plans!

ALSO - Remember that we do have a fund (sponsored by classmates) to help those who might feel a financial pinch on the reservation cost or a portion of the fee. This is an "anonymous" fund and is there to help encourage more participation at NHS '68 events.

Hope to see you at the 65th Birthday Party.

Be Well -

Classmates,

If you have been to our Class of '68 homepage lately you know the countdown clock is nearing our party time. Unlike years past where you could pay at the door, that is not an option this time. Our caterer and venues need an exact count of attendees as we are renting all table service and linens. There won't be any extra place settings.

If you are coming, please get your check to me by Aug. 20th. If that is not possible please let Tom or me know you are going to be there and we will add you to the count and you can pay us at the party. Friday night at Cy's is not part of the party expense and is open to everyone even if you don't plan to come Saturday or Sunday.

We have several classmates coming in from long distances to see everyone. Barb Gabel is coming in from Alaska, Dennis Schmidt from N.Carolina, Veronica Camargo + Sylvia Schorn from Colorado, Prudy Hutton from California, Vicki Daily + Roger Morton from Oklahoma and Wil + Nancy Hillman from Missouri.

Hope to see you there,

Kim + Tom

Dear classmates, when I see the home page countdown closing into a single digit number, I can’t help but wonder where time goes, especially after retiring in May and setting some healthy goals.

Plan #1: LOSE WEIGHT before our 65th class birthday party in September... Well, 5 whole pounds heavier, realization sinks in “that plan ‘ain’t gonna’ work”.

Plan #2:  WALKING down to the bridge and back. However, my ankle starts to ache with Charlie-horse systems after playing dodge-body with the traffic whizzing by. And after ditch walking my knee swells up, and the mosquitoes think I’m a buffet bar. So now what?

Plan #3: THE BIG "E" WORD (exersize) by dragging that heavy 200 foot water hose around while watering the flowerbeds. So, with a bug floppy straw hat, long sleeved shirts, and jeans I am now prepared to fend off sunshine, mosquitoes, and biting flies. But, that hose always gets kinked or stuck someplace or another. One day I absolutely refused to think that “by golly I might be getting older, but I’m definably not so weak that I can’t pull my hose around the house". So with a mighty heave, my feet flip right out from under me as I was standing on the dam hose, couldn’t move for a week. Is that too much Visual! LOL!

Plan #4: SWIMMING at the activity center should do it. Squeezing in and out of one-size too small swimsuit should be great exercise. Anyway, wish me luck, better yet… come and join me if you can.

Connie

Arlys Kessler (Nilles)

Hi All -  I'm disappointed to miss the 65th b-day party for the Class of 68. Our son was married in July in a destination wedding for family in San Diego, and on Sept 5th we will be having a Marriage Celebration Party here in Madison for the Wisconsin and Iowa friends and family. I look forward to seeing pictures from the party and hope there will be an opportunity to hear about it firsthand at a Saturday breakfast at the Breadbasket when I come to Newton to visit my mom.

I too am saddened from this news.  Bob was the first one who befriended me when I moved to Newton.  A great guy who was always making me laugh.  He will be missed.

We had a great time at the 65th birthday celebration!  It was wonderful to see and talk to our old (pun intended) classmates.  Can't wait until our 50th year reunion.  Hopefully we will get a lot of classmates at that one. Special thanks to Tom, Kim, and the entire committee for putting together a fantastic venue.  We do appreciate all the hard work.  Thanks for a great time.
