This Saturday (9th) is our monthly class breakfast at the Breadbasket in beautiful downtown Newton. We will be in the back dining room around 9 am. We hope you can be there too.

Connie and I would like to thank all classmates that sent cards, e-mailed, texted, called, visited or social media commented on our loss. Your kind words and heartfelt wishes are truly appreciated.

Dear Classmates

My family thanks you for the many kind thoughts, words of encouragement, cards, loving hugs, and personal acts of kindness. Your prayers held us up during overwhelming times. I truly believe that one of the most powerful gifts that God has graced us with is prayer, it is a powerful gift that is felt no matter how far or how close, time and space matters not when you pray for a stranger, loved one, our world, or for an old-gal from high school days.

Today is the first day to be with just me-myself-and I with a sad realization that life will never be the same in my heart. It will take me awhile to get grounded, to deal with this terrible void in my soul. John and Tieyce went back to work today, and my two granddaughters are at school facing new challenges in their tender young lives.

As for myself, I’m still processing the reality that life does go on and that no one knows the time or hour when we will leave our earthly body, but it’s not about how much time we have left, it’s about what we do and how we chose to live, forgive, and love within that time that counts.

Thank you again for your support and many heart felt prayers.

Connie and Family

It has been a rough couple of weeks for several of our classmates, and we are all still thinking of each of them and their families at their time of such loss. I thought this photo of Rat Pack II from lunch today might bring a little smile.....

Arlys Kessler (Nilles)

My mother, Mary Kessler, took up watercolor painting in 2006 when she was 90 yrs old. She was quite a prolific painter (~275) and family members now have many of her paintings in our homes. When she moved to assisted living a year ago, we still had >75 paintings to 'downsize'. Last November, we sold 56 of my mother's paintings at Presby Manor raising >$2300 for the Employee Scholarship Fund (thank you Connie Rhodes). This coming weekend is the Apple Blossom Festival at Presbyterian Manor in Newton on April 29.  We will be selling ~30 of her paintings with the proceeds again donated to the Employee Scholarship Fund at Presby Manor.

A couple of classmates who had Mrs. Kessler as their Home Ec. teacher have bought or expressed an interest in obtaining one.  My mom will be 100 in June and this is an opportunity to get one of her paintings and also donate to a worthy cause.

You don't have to come to the Apple Blossom Festival in Newton to get one of Mrs. Kessler's paintings.  You can view them on the attached link (thank you Tom Collier) and let me know if there is one in which you are interested. Info for purchasing is in the attached .pdf. Please feel no obligation - I'm just putting the info out there.

NOTE: WE HAVE REMOVED THE PDF PAGES, BUT IF YOU WANT MORE INFO, THEN YOU CAN EMAIL ARLYSS THROUGH HER PROFILE ON THIS SITE -

THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Sorry I have taken so long to express my condolences for your losses.   You have all been and will continue to be in my prayers.  I was going to attend Wes's services but the family of my close friend who was dying of cancer needed me to track down a priest.  I felt I needed to be with my friend and her family that day.  This has been a very rough year so far.  It is very comforting to know we have such wonderful, caring classmates and their spouses are also very wonderful and caring people. Hope to see everyone at the next breakfast!

My mom, Mary Kessler, will be 100 years old on June 24.  We are planning a card shower to mark this centennial event.  If you had Mary Kessler for Home Ec at Santa Fe, or if you know her otherwise, please send a note or card to arrive on or around June 24 to: Mary Kessler, 1200 E 7th St, Newton, KS  67114.  She will be very pleased to receive your greetings!!

If you are in Newton, Presbyterian Manor is hosting a reception on Friday, June 24, from 2-4 PM in the main dining room AND Trinity Heights United Methodist Church is hosting a reception after the 9 AM service at 10 AM on Sunday, June 26 in Murray Hall.

Hey ALL -

I received an interesting request from someone outside the class, who wanted to add an In Memory post for Don DeVola.

She has asked the NHS Class of 1968 to help find out information on Don's mother.

I did not know Don's mother - BUT if you have ANY information about her (name, address, living, deceased?) - then please send me a note/email and I will pass it on.

Thanks -

Tom C.

Janet Beard

Dear Classmates,

I give glory and honor unto God for his comfort and peace through the loss of my son, Jason Andre.  I truly appreciate and thank each of you for your prayers, cards, messages of comfort and encouragment, and your thoughtfulness during this trying time. I feel like a parent should never have to bury a child regardless of their age, nevertheless, it's still a part of life, enduring the good along with the bad. He was my only child. God knows how much I loved him; how much I prayed over him; how many tears I shed for him over the years, even this very moment and above all how numb I am. But I take great joy in the fact that he is now free with no cumbersome burdens of this life.

Thank you all for helping me to get through this. May the peace of God which passeth all understanding keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Phil.4:7).

Your clasmate,

Janet M. Beard

Janet,

During our phone conversation I said that we will grieve as hard as we love. When I found this saying below, I wanted to share it with you.

“Grieving never ends… But it changes. It’s a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith it is the price of Love."

Sending you spiritual hugs to hold, support, and give comfort to you.

Connie
