Bill-
I remember all those songs, too. The reason I remember doing the Freddie at the Freshman Frolic is because my A line skirt was too tight and the rebound of my leg about made me fall...but the song became popular before that. I love the late fifties songs and the memories of my sister dancing in the living room to Hi Fi Hop with Bill Brooks...the Chicken Scratch was one of those dances. My dad kept telling her she was going to wear holes in the rug. I loved the Four Seasons singing "Marlena" and "Blue on Blue" by Bobby Vinton, and Elvis singing "All Shook Up." I was in 6th grade when she was a senior, so I was more of a spy.
The Beatles did perform first in the U.S. when we were eighth graders. I remember that night on Ed Sullivan when my aunt and uncle were appalled as we all watched these long haired wild boys. My entertainment before they were on was sitting quietly at the dining room table and drawing pictures out of our Funk and Wagnell set of encyclopedias of Michelangelo. I was "square" as my sister called me.
