Has anyone heard how Monica's dad, Bernie Schmidt, is doing?  He had a stroke just before Bingo started Wednesday night at the VFW and they rushed him to Wichita by ambulance.

I actually did it! I retired Dec 31.  Here we are a month and a half later and I can't believe that the time has gone so quickly.  One small deviation from the plan: it looks like I will have a hip replacement soon.  I'm getting a little fatter since I'm not walking every day, but I will be back soon.

Bill Boyd

Bravo, Roger!  Have you got a system for keeping up with what day of the week it is?  All the best, and I'm sure that hip replacement will be fine. (I wonder if they use OEM parts)

ROGER -

Congratulations on your retirement - I will be sure to post a "RUMBLE" about it. Knees and hips seem to be fairly common medical procedures among our age group - what were we doing to wear them out? Oh well - best wishes on your career in retirement and for a full recovery from the hip surgery. (PS: Be sure to have your wife prod you along to do the exercises/rehab - very important!)

For anyone that might want to know, I am actually getting paid for acting, now.  Not on Broadway, no, and I'm not getting rich and I don't want to be famous, but it covers the gas most of the time, and an occasional fast food feast. www.facebook.com/bill.the.actor and www.plays-well-with-others.com.

Thanks for the retirement wishes. I had the hip replacement on Feb 24 and came home on the 27th.  It went better than I expected and I'm rehabilitating well.

Terri and I plan to go to the Sweet Adeline regional contest in Tulsa the end of March.  Her chorus is the outgoing champion. Then we are coaching a small chorus, coaching 9 and 10-year-olds in public scripture reading and judging some events at Leadership Training for Christ in Rogers Arkansas on Easter weekend. My brother, Mike, is getting married in June at Silver Dollar City, MO.  We're planning a genealogy trip through Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Iowa. And finally, to the Sweet Adeline International Contest in Baltimore. So, I have a lot of motivation to follow my exercise instructions!

Bill Boyd, I'm glad you are getting to do what you really love to do!

For those wondering whether to retire: everyone's case is different, but it doesn't take as much savings as you might think. For me, my body and mind made it clear that the time had come. It helps if you can wait for Medicare coverage; health insurance premiums are outrageous!  We don't expect to have the desire to travel as much 10-15 years from now, so we're going to take the trips while we have the money and reasonable health. We don't know how many days we have, so I figure, do what you can, while you can, and continually give thanks to the One who gives you the day.

I want to meet for breakfast in Newton whenever I get back!

best wishes,

Roger

Oh, and, before I went to the hospital, I lost 20 pounds! How? I haven't the slightest idea.

Hey ALL -

I just wanted to send a quick apology out to those who get "notifications" by email every time there is a change to the site. You probably received several today - and I was just trying to do a small change to the HOME PAGE - but alas, it kept fighting me. I cannot see if the changes actually take hold sometimes (even in the PREVIEW they offer) until I log out. So each time I close the page you get a "notice" - Sorry.

Tom C.

Hello all....its seems like a long time since I've written anything, but that doesn't mean I haven't been checking in on you guys.

I'm on my last day of spring break (o'sigh!), and have spent the whole time procrastinating while laying around on  the couch or in my recliner with a book in hand. Yep! Doing nothing for 10 whole days. I could be a professional goof-off, maybe write a book on the subject. Loved every minute of it! However, the downside gave me worry that I will be like this after retiring one of these days. But maybe not! Hopefully this old'gal just needed some R&R..

Say! If anyone is looking for a good read: INVASIVE SPECIES by Joseph Wallace is a true terrifying thriller. I read this book in one day, then had nightmares for two nights...great story! Anyone in Newton want it, give me a call and I will drop it off for you or you can come and get it.

Well, rats... here it is 9:20 AM already. I have done nothing, sleep late, and downed a pot of coffee. Life is good! Take care, stay healthy, and exercise... hahahahahaha!  If not before, hope to see you at our next breakfast gathering. Hugs Connie

Tom -  Thanks for the Railer Rumblings Shout Out!  A week in the hospital is no fun.  Got home yesterday and am doing better...hope to keep it that way.  Still need to pass a couple of more stones (I wish they were diamonds)...hope they come out easy.  Will be on antibiotics for a couple of weeks and I hope that kicks the infection.  Thanks again.  Love you guy!

Bill.... from reading all your theatre activities... it makes me want to take a nap.

I only have FOUR more days to drive the bus.... and boy' o boy am I ready. I thank God everyday for a safe trip. I hate driving on 50 Hwy, I've seen so many close encounters with trucks and autos, with many deer here and that includes myself.  I hope to drive 1 more year before turning in my bus keys. Next month I renew my drivers Lc. but wonder if I will pass the vision test. So now I have to see my eye doc. before going.  Anyway, my summer break will only be a "flash" as my pore calendar already looks like a crossword puzzle filled with numbers and events.

Yippee Dippee! My Golden Years are here or have they already been here and agone?

Say! if you want a fun thing to do... take a hike down memory lane, check out the photos on the 60th BD Party. What a great looking bunch we are and so blessed to maintain precious friendships through all these years.

Also.... I hate to admit this but on the "RAILER RUMBLINGS" 'Shout out to June' the picture of the plaid-guy on the carhood..... Well! getting older and not wearing my glasses makes things look different sometimes... I truly thought this was guy was John Nicodemus being silly while on vacation.... now who has the last laugh at that one? Sorry John! And thanks June for setting me straight. I love you guys.

Does anyone know what ever happened to Steve Kennedy?  He was so popular and well-liked, it seems like someone would know where he is.  At one time, I thought he was in Erie, PA.  Hope someone knows.  Hard name to research.

TO BRENDA AND ALL -

Just a quick note about Steve Kennedy - Last time I saw Steve (Mary and I were having dinner with Chris and Dale Rose at EL TORO) was probably 8 years ago (maybe more). He said he and his wife were on their way to Spain as missionaries.

Here is a link to their webpage (with pics) describing their mission and church in Spain.

http://steveandsusankennedy.org

Hope this helps -

Tom C. (glad to be back from vacation in Europe - now if I could just get back in sync with time!)
