Connie,

Sorry to hear that you have had some age-related issues. It sounds like you are on a good path toward mending them.  We recently got an unexpected reminder that we are "getting up there" in years.  We have gone on a lot of cruises in the last twenty years, but haven't done one since COVID.  So, last weekend we booked a cruise for October.  Then we started to work on reserving excursions for each of the stops.  We picked a water resort in Cozumel which included an underground river to explore. That sounded like a lot of fun.  When we selected "Purchase", a window popped up saying that we are not eligible for that excursion because we are TOO OLD!!!.  Wow!  We weren't expecting that one!  We grumbled a bit and then tried to pick a snorkel trip.  You guessed it!  TOO OLD!!  Come to find out, about half of the excursions have an age limit of 65 or 70. (Surprisingly, zip-lining through jungle canopies 40-feet above the ground did not have an age limit!)   So, in spite of the unexpected reality check on our age, we still found some fun things to do and will have a good time.  Next time, we will have to do these more dangerous activities on our own.  😊

Dennis Schmidt - If you're seeking a thrill I highly recommend the Rusty Wallace Racing Experience - they have no age cap. My wife gifted me with 10 hot laps in a retired Nascar at Iowa Speedway a few years back. BIG FUN! No worries because they set the rev limiters to cap top speed at 155 mph. Have fun!

Thanks all for your input over the last few months regarding the preferred time of the year for our 55th High School Reunion in 2023. The majority of responses indicate Summer as the preferred time. We will begin detailed planning in the Fall of this year and work to secure our 2 venues. We plan to again have Friday at The Winery near Whitewater, Ks, and Saturday will be at the American Legion in Newton. We may also try to schedule a visit and tour of our old Newton High building in the morning or afternoon on Friday. (The building is now a junior high, but the building will still have a lot of memories for us).

Looking forward to a GREAT turnout and seeing you all. We're not getting any younger..... please plan to attend!

Martin

Is the 3rd from the left Christine Castleberry?

Mike Roberts

Martin the girl on the left is Cathy Clegg and I think Veronica is correct.

I was trying to remember when Linda Zinn started at Lincoln.  Thought that might be her on the right side of the front row?

Tom, Linda Zinn was in my class. That is not her.

Yeah, I think Mike has it figured out.  Fun pictures Martin, but it is sobering to realize how many of our classmates are no longer with us.

My most memorable moment at Newton High School.....

Ken Schlup was our gym teacher. We had a 2 week session on golf. I was the only left-handed guy in the class - and they had NO left-handed golf clubs. So while everyone went across the street to the park each day to practice golf - I stayed in the locker rooom as the basket boy :) :) :) :)

Share you most memorable moment.

While attending Sante Fe Jr High we shared gym class with NHS under Coaches Schlup and Warren. My most memorable Gym class moment was actually in the 9th grade when following roll call lineup, Coach Warren called me out to the center of Lindley Hall and ordered me to do drop and do pushups in front of the class; one for each time he had to fish his Kansan Paper out of his front bushes. Fortunately his count was off as I only recall doing 35 pushups, but I had previously made a point of never throwing is paper on his porch. Next time I went to collect for his monthly subscription he came to the door and threw out a handfull of change into the bush and across the lawn. My aim slightly improved after that. :)

Classmates....

I've noticed some of your are moving because of retirement to better climes or you are following your offspring.  Please remember to update your new addresses....both mail and email.  If you have a new email address, you can change it by logging in with your OLD email address (still works) and then putting in your NEW email address.  Make sure you update your password too.  Then your new email address with work for the class page.

Thanks

Lee Buller

My most memorable moment happened every gym class when we lined up by height and I was the last in the line. I was thrilled when I had a growth spurt and Tony Garcia replaced me at the end of the line. Playing dodgeball with Mike Roberts targeting me was also memorable, not in a good way.

My most memorable moment with Schlup.....we had a 2 week unit on golf. Because they had no left-handed set of clubs, Schlup made me locker boy for 2 weeks, while everyone else went out to play golf. 🙁

Had a great time earlier this week having lunch and spending the afternoon with Veronica Camargo. We joined 7 other classmates for lunch at Genova's in Newton, then checked out other places in Newton, including an art gallery featuring many paintings by Mario Garcia. Good time and memories!!
