Duane K. Laswell

   Duane K. Laswell, 41, 409 S.E. Fourth in Newton, a manufacturing machinist, died Sunday (August 16, 1992) at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.

   He was born Oct. 15, 1950 in Newton to Roy L. and Beryl Rutschman Laswell.  He is a graduate of Newton High School.

    He enjoyed reading, animals, fishing and watching the squirrels in his backyard.  He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.

    He is survived by his parents of Newton; a brother, Gary of Wichita, a sister, Kathleen R. Leal of Walton; three nieces and a nephew.

   Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Salem United Methodist Church in Newton with the Rev. Tom Sheldon officiating.

   Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

   Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton.  Memorials may be sent to the Harvey County Humane Society in care of Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.

Duane and I lived down the street from each other in the pre-school years in the 400 block of west 9th street. We fished in Sand Creek and told whoppers of fish stories as only five and six year olds can, unbelievably. My parents moved to west 7th and I went to St. Mary's and he went to Lincoln school. Our paths parted and only had limited contact thereafter. David Olson
