Barbara,

Thanks for heading this up! I am so looking forward to this!

I am so glad you mentioned your booths at the Arts & Crafts fair at the rec center. If you hadn't mentioned it, I was going to because I think our classmates would like to know about it.

Ladies: Reservations are made for next Thursday, Nov 5th, at El Cerrito in Hesston at 1 pm. They normally break at 2 pm but we have permission to stay as long as we want. Sorry that it is Mexican again but it was the only formal restaurant open to dine-in in Hesston.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in a week.

Ladies: Slight change to time for our luncheon. The whole reason for going to Hesston was to include June and I forgot her lunch hour. My bad!!  Please join us at 11:30 am at the El Cerrito for lunch this Thursday.  Thanks!!

Remember, November 12th is the monthly class breakfast at the Breadbasket in Newton.  Time is 10 a.m.  Yea, I know, it is hard to get out of bed that early.

The food is hearty....eggs, bacon, biscuits are gravy, fruit, breads, etc.  You won't go away hungry because you can go back for as much as you want.  Coffee is good too.

See you there!

Lee

Ladies: I hope everyone had a great Turkey Day with their families and friends. This Thursday is our luncheon for December. It will be at 1 pm at Home Grown on N. Maize in Wichita. It has been suggested that we might do some window shopping afterward to wear off a little more of the stuffing and gravy!!!

C-ya there!!

About the girls lunch this Thursday, 12-3-2020.  Becky Davis has a Dr's appointment that day and Barbara Smith has an appointment at 2:40pm to get her driver's license renewed. Plus the weather is supposed to be nasty. Any chance we could change it to somewhere here in town? Also, Barbara Smith wants to know if anyone has a number for Janet Brodhagen so we could invite her to our lunches.

Thanks Barbara Gabel for planning this for us! I really appreciate it!

I did not write this - but well worth the read. -Martin

Barely the day started and... it's already six in the evening.
Barely arrived on Monday and it's already Friday.
... and the month is already over.
... and the year is almost over.
... and already 50, 60 or 70 years of our lives have passed.
... and we realize that we lost our parents, friends.
... and we realize it's too late to go back...

So... Let's try, despite everything, to enjoy the remaining time...
Let's keep looking for activities that we like...
Let's put some color in our grey...
Let's smile at the little things in life that put balm in our hearts.
And despite everything, we must continue to enjoy with serenity this time we have left. Let's try to eliminate the afters...
I'm doing it after...
I'll say it after...
I'll think about it after...
We leave everything for later like ′′ after ′′ is ours.
Because what we don't understand is that:
Afterwards, the coffee gets cold...
afterwards, priorities change...
Afterwards, the charm is broken...
afterwards, health passes...
Afterwards, the kids grow up...
Afterwards parents get old - or are gone...
Afterwards, promises are forgotten...
afterwards, the day becomes the night...
afterwards life ends...
And then it's often too late....
So... Let's leave nothing for later...
Because still waiting to see you later, we can lose the best moments,
the best experiences, best friends, the best family...
The day is today... The moment is now.

Hey lunch ladies,

You need to call your lunch bunch the JULIETS to go with the guys ROMEOS. That's "Retired Old Men Eating Out" and you girls would be "Just Us Ladies Into Eating Together". Heard that on TV the other night. Enjoy!

Hello Classmates.

It has been a while since posting anything, so thought I'd let you know that John and I are doing well and feel blessed with all that we have, and it would be foolish to find something to complain about. Anyway, Barb Gable and I was driving around yesterday in her hotti red SUV like two up-beat young gals feeling their oats, dragging daylight Main Street USA in bitter cold weather LOL!

And then the question of the day came up… “What were the businesses/buildings across the street from the high school on the south east and south west corner? However, please understand there are no prizes for the winners, just grateful gratitude knowing that you can remember that far back. Sending Railer Hugs from Newton. Connie

The southeast corner had a Texaco station and next to it was Harry Baker Motors (Chrysler/Plymouth dealership). I believe the southwest corner also had a gas station but don't recall.

Thanks, Martin. I thought it was a gas station too.

PS: See everyone at the class breakfast tomorrow!!

David Olson advised:

The gas station Diagonally South West of the High School at the corner of Broadway and Poplar was Dick Smoldt's Champlin and he had a son a year or two older than we were. His name was Alvin or Alan. I don't remember his name. In '72 when I came back through Newton it was a 60 minute laundry or something like that.

His name was Alvin. He was a year older than us. He played the trumpet in band and was a quite kind of guy.
Hear y'all freezing over there! Stay warm!
Happy Valentine's Day Railers!
