Terry Bernowich (Schmitz)

Bill and Darla, I am so sorry to hear about what you are both going through right now. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your familys. August has been a tough month. I have lost 2 close friends in the past 2 weeks to cancer and found out 2 of my former co workers have it also. Miracles do happen and prayers are answered. God Bless You Both!

Kim - I am sorry for your Dad's passing. Brenda and I both lost our mothers this past year both at age 93. Like your Dad, they both lived long and fruitful lives and are missed. My condolences to you and Cory.

From Aloha >>> back-to-reality!

John and I totally enjoyed our 10 day stay on the island Kuia in Hawaii.

During our time away on the beach, many class messages where missed….

Kim,

Our sincere prayers cover the Saylor family. Please know we are thinking of you in sympathy and understanding that words can’t express for the loss of your father. You have been a beautiful supportive care-provider and loving son. Your father was truly blessed.

Birthdays:

I want to send all the October birthday babies a belated Birthday wish filled with joy and happiness today and every day….

Hawaii:

Yes, I took a nose dive down a steep sand doom at the beach. Mooning everyone there, but thankful my face hit the beach towel on the downhill slide. Yes! Two pretty young babes in bikini’s assisted John during a snorkel adventure. Yes! I had one-too many my-ties at the Luau. Yes! (Thankfully) John has more common sense than I do. And YES! our trip was awesome!

Well, the chemo is done. Had new CT SCANS last week an got the results today. The lesions in my lung and liver have both shrunk dramatically and there are no new spots. That means I can have surgery on each of those. I will be having the liver resection possibly before Christmas. The lu g resection will come after that. Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers. A week ago I didn't think I would be alive for the next reunion. There's a good chance I will be, now. I wish I could afford it.

Susan (Karst) Washburn passed away today (12/16). Our deepest condolences and heartfelt prayers to Pat Washburn and the family for this sudden and heart breaking loss.

Pat and Susan had planned to be at our house this evening for a Christmas gathering of the "card group" (classmates and friends) - and I know how much Susan had wanted to attend, after having been "house ridden" while fighting a serious infection recently.

Her laughter will be missed by all of us.

I've been remiss...

Here's an update:  I went to the surgical oncologist at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem shortly after my last post.  He wasn't happy with the quality of the CT Scan, so he ordered an MRI of my liver.  When he got those results, he still didn't see anything.  So the lesion in my liver has shrunk to nothing (although there are probably some pesky little cells floating about in there).  No surgery required.  Keep watching.

I went back to my oncologist in Statesville, and she checked with the Radiation Therapy people who think that the spot in my lung is too small even for targeted therapy.  I did two more cycles of chemo, and will have more scans in a couple of weeks.

Oh, and I'm getting used to being bald, too.  It's easier to remember to wear a hat, when it's cold, now.  I'm working on the theatre artistic director.  Maybe we'll do "Annie" next year.

Darla Klassen (Drosselmeyer)

Bill, This sounds like great news! I have been thinking of you. What a journey - You have handled it with such a positive attitude. You would make an awesome Daddy Warbucks! Hope that happens for you. I also have good news. My CT scan shows no cancer at the present time- Yahoo! I have my next round of chemo this coming week. After that, I will be on a maintenance program- treatment every 3 months for 2-3 years. So it looks like I will go into retirement cancer free.  76 more actual teaching days left- but who's counting! 👍

That sounds wonderful, Darla.  I was wondering about you, too.  Sounds like the best news of all!  Someone else remarked about my "attitude" recently.  I have to say that it's not really a conscious choice.  There are too many things I want to do for me to sit and wait to get sicker.  Enjoy your retirement.  And I'm not holding my breath on Daddy Warbucks.  There are four extremely talented men (besides me) with no hair at that theatre.
