Patricia Hockman (Penny)

PENNY, PATRICIA ANN (HOCKMAN), Passed away peacefully on October 20, 2005. A brilliant star faded from the sky that day and our earth has grown a little darker with her loss. Pat was born January 31, 1950 in Hutchinson, KS to Warren and Dorothy Hockman. She moved to Arlington, TX in 1970 where she made her home until her death. Pat married Daryl Barkley on August 23, 1969. Pat blessed the world with a beautiful son, Jason Barkley, who was the twinkle in her eye until her death. She married Don Penny on November 19, 1992 and he stood faithfully by her side through health and illness. Pat's gift to us all was the art that came from her hands. Her inquisitiveness engulfed her and her knowledge of all art forms expanded beyond normal confines. She embraced all things beautiful - from art glass to clay, from porcelain to fabric, from textiles to knitting, from precious metal sculpting to art welding. Her voracious appetite to explore all an forms guided her heart to learn all she could, experience all she could, and share with countless people around the world the glorious art pieces she produced. She could not keep the beauty of her mind to herself. Rather, she chose to teach others the incredible talents she possessed and cherished. Pat was thrilled to welcome into her family her first grandchild on January 21, 2005. As with every grandmother, the joy of a new life thrilled her like no other. Pat was employed at Oil States Industries in Arlington as a Project Administrator for over 24 years. She considered this to be her extended family. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Ellen, and her sister Janet. Pat is survived by her husband, Don of the home, her son Jason Barkley, his wife, Tiffany and their daughter, Kyra of Arlington, TX, her brothers. Gary Hockman, Roger Klenke and sister, Linda Hockman of Oklahoma City. An endless host of friends and fellow artists across the country are left to continue her life's love through their arts. The family would like to thank the staff of Vitas Hospice for their help and compassion. Services will be held at 12:30p.m. on Monday, October 24, 2005 at Moore Memorial Chapel, 1219 North Davis, Arlington, TX. Interment will be at Moore Memorial Gardens. Patty and I went though high school and college (at Oklahoma Christian University) together. We did lots of fun things as part of our church youth group. Her dad was the minister at my wedding. Patty married, about the same time as Terri and I, in 1970, had one son, and was divorced several years later. She raised her son alone for many years until about 1992, and then married Mr. Penny. I met him only once, at Patty's mom's funeral, and he seemed very nice. I was so happy to see Patty happy. I'm not certain about the facts of her illness, but in about 2004 she had a very aggressive brain cancer, and died in October 2005. The first Hockman child died in infancy and I never knew her. Patty's father, Mother, and sister, Janet, died within just a few months of each other, and then Patty unexpectedly joined them a year or so later. One Brother, Gary, lives in Oklahoma city, and is caring for the last of the five Hockman children, Linda, who is about 45 years old and has Downs Syndrome. This family has seen a lot of tragedy and death, and I trust they are all resting safely in the bosom of Christ. Roger Morton
