Ricardo Michael Terrones was born on July 5, 1950, to Faustino and Josephine Terrones in Newton, Kansas. He obtained his strong work ethic from his father's example, his belief in the critical importance of higher education from his mother, and his moral strength from his Catholic Faith. He lived a typical childhood of attending school, biking everywhere, playing baseball, and enjoying friendships. He was an altar boy on Sunday mornings, and his love of reading took him consistently to the library.

As he grew, he realized his talent for understanding music and expressed it through playing the trumpet. His goal was to be college bound in pursuit of a career in music. However, with Vietnam raging, his sense of responsibility and love of Country took him to a Marine recruiter instead, and he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, which significantly changed his life and molded him into the man he would always be. Because of his talent, he was stationed at Arlington National Cemetery, where he was commissioned to play Taps for the funerals of the fallen—a difficult and demanding assignment. He served four years and carried the pride of the Marine Corps with him forever.

Upon his Honorable Discharge he attended Wichita State University and received a Bachelor of Performing Arts. While at Wichita he played trumpet with the Wichita Symphony. He continued his studies at Yale and played with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. He also had the privilege of playing in Carnegie Hall. While his life took a different path, he was always a musician at heart and enjoyed all symphony music, especially the composer Giuseppe Verdi.

His career path took him to the Dallas Police Department where he served his community for 30 years. During that time, he married Rita and became an instant father of 2 children. A few years later he experienced the birth of his firstborn, a daughter, then a couple years later a son. His proudest moments were watching the accomplishments of all four of his children. They all obtained bachelor's degrees, and his firstborn captured a master’s. The 2 oldest served in the military, and the youngest currently leads the life of a nomad professional athlete. All four have challenging careers and are intelligent, productive, kind, and caring individuals. His legacy lives on through the successful lives of his children and grandchildren.

Ric is survived by his brother, Steven Terrones; his wife, Rita Terrones; his children, Brad Wendt, Nikki Vincent, Maria Edwards, and Matthew Terrones; and his granddaughters, Evelyn Wendt, Ashley Vincent, Gwendolyn Wendt, and Addison Edwards.
