Terry Bernowich (Schmitz)

Thank you everyone for your comments about Switlana. She cried and thanked me on the phone for letting people know about her condition. It really touched her heart to realize she didn't need to try to fight this on her own. She never even told her family how bad she was or they would have helped her.

A friend of Switlana's that worked with her at NMC, Shanna Quiring, said she would like to take Woody, her Lhasa Apso. She said Switlana always talked talked about Woody and was really glad she had her little doggie to get through losing Stan. I passed Shanna's info on to her niece.

Thank you all for your kind words and support. I will keep you posted if I find out anything about her services.

God Bless you all!

Bob Hurley, I am so glad to hear you are doing well. My prayers are with you. I miss seeing you occasionaly at the Blood Drives.

Thank you Marci. If Shanna is unable to keep Woody or he doesn't adapt well with her, I will let you know. She may need someone who knows how to care for dogs like Woody.

Terry , what issues does woody have and how old is he?

I am not sure how old she is and I think she might have problems if their were other pets in the house. But I am sure she is a sweet little dog. I think I remeber Switlana saying she is about 7 or 8 but I can't swear to that. Traci, her niece was going to post a picture of Woody. Shanna and Switlana worked together at NMC. Traci said she talked with Shanna about Woody. I am pretty sure Shanna will take Woody. Of course Switlana said Woody  is a spoiled doggie.

Thank you for your concern and prayers.

Switlana's niece messaged me earlier to let me know that the viewing will be Friday and the services will be on Saturday. She is at Petersons Funeral Home.

Also her little doggie Woody will be taken care of by Shanna Quiring who worked with Switlan at NMC.

I will let you know when I get more updates.

God Bless all of you!

I am so sad to hear of Switlana’s passing. I always called he Sweet Lana, from our Chisholm JH days to the present. Thanks to all of you for taking good care of her these past weeks and I’m glad to hear that she was in good spirits as of Saturday. Terri and I are in Boston with our daughter and Son-in-law and won’t be able to come to her service, but we will be thinking of Switlana and all of our classmates as we grieve for her.

Bob, I’m glad to hear you are doing better. It will, indeed, get better and before long you will be enjoying having that new knee. Terri had hers done a year ago and I’ve had a new hip for five years and our lives have been so much more active after the recovery period. I hope you’ll have an easy time from now on.

The last message I received from Switlana's niece said the visitation would be Friday and the graveside services would be Saturday, but she didn't give me any times yet. So I don't know if there will be any other service besides the graveside service. I will let you know as soon as I find out.

Thank you all for your wonderful responses.

I just checked my email for the first time today. I received Switlana's Obituary notice from Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. I guess her niece told me the wrong funeral home. I shared it to facebook.

Visitation will be Friday, August 31st, at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, between 1:00-8:00 P.M. The family will be there from 6:30-8:00 P.M.

Graveside services and interment will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 1, at the Highland Trinity United Church of Christ Cemetery, 8322 N Anderson Rd, Newton.

It is very sad to hear of Switlana's passing, but I know she was comforted that so many friends were supporting her in her final days.  It has been said before, but I will say it again, we have a great class in so many ways!!

I have posted her obituary in the "In Memory" section.  There wasn't a photo in her profile, so I scanned her yearbook photo. If any of you have a better photo of Switlana, I will be happy to post it.

Dennis, thank you so much for posting her obituary in her profile. I didn't know how to do that. Also I will see if I can get an updated picture of her. This is what our class is all about, small things matter a lot.

Switlana and I were great friends in High School.  I remember her coming over to make cranberry-orange bread; the recipe from Mrs. Gordon.  We also had a contest going.  We kept track of how many guys we kissed, and we rated them.  She definitely won because she married later in life.  We laughed into our adulthood about our lists.  I ranked my dear Roger the highest, as a 5-star kisser.  Just some information no one really needed to know here.

Switlana's Niece, Traci Gehrke, sent me a message and also posted on Facebook that there would be a light lunch after the services at the Church by the cemetery. All are welcome to come and share memories of Switlana.

Thanks for sharing your memories of Switlana. She was such a sweetheart. Just a side note I thought "you were suppose to kiss and not tell"! LOL I am glad you got a 5-star man in your life!  Switlana will be missed by many!

Thanks Marci! I pondered whether to share our special club, but it is such a funny story.  Thank you for your regards about Roger.  We would have been married 50 years this week.  He was a five star in so many ways!  I thank God for having him in my life for so long.

Thank you all for your wonderful stories about Switlana!

They are still looking for a home for Switlana's little doggie, Wolfie. They have a temporary home for her now, but they feel she needs to be with someone or family who doesn't have other pets. I guess she is a little spoiled (ya think) but is a real sweet little thing.

I know the family would appreciate you sharing your memories on her obituary page at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home's email site.

http://www.broadwaycolonialfh.com/obituaries

That way the funeral home can print them out for the family.

Classmates, I received word this evening of the death of Stan Koehn from his sister, Virginia.  Stan passed away late yesterday, September 5, at his home in Manhattan.  Although he had recently been under the care of hospice, his passing came unexpectedly.  I thought it was unusual not to see Stan at our recent reunion and now understand that his health had deteriorated significantly and he had been hospitalized for an extended period of time.  Stan lived a life full of experiences that would have taxed many of us but he just rolled with 'em and maintained the PMA (positive mental attitude).  Raise one in his honor, he'd want it that way.  Virginia will let me know when a celebration of life will be held.
